Water Lilies are some of the most beautiful & popular pond plants that you can purchase for your pond, for good reason. These plants come in a variety of different colors and sizes to suit everyone's taste. Hardy lilies are also a very dependable pond plant, coming back every season after the long winter months, bigger and more beautiful each year. No pond is complete without water lilies. All of our lilies are shipped bare root or soil-less. The roots are wrapped in wet newspaper to keep them from drying out. This is standard practice for nurseries shipping aquatic plants.
What to Do When You Receive Your New Lilies
Upon arrival place your new water lilies in aged pond water, and place them in the shade. Pot them in two days and set them in your pond. Placing them in the sun right away when you receive your new lilies will burn them. Suggested planting depth for our water lilies is 18" to 24". Our lilies are nice size plants with lily pads 4" to 6" wide 12" to 16" tall with flower blooms on most lilies. Water lilies are very heavy feeders and should be fertilized with a high quality aquatic plant fertilizer for large healthy plants.
Water Lilies are not only a beautiful addition to your pond they are also very funtional. Lilies like all pond plants consume built up nutrition in your pond as food helping to starve off algae growth for natural algae control.
Their large lily pads also provide shade and security for your pond fish keeping them safe and stress free. It's no wonder water lilies are the most popular pond plants purchased by pond owners world wide.
Planting Instructions:
Fill a 12" round pot with plain top soil, not fertilized potting soil. Dig a hole with your fingers lage enough for the lilies root system. Place the bare root lily in the hole at a 45 degree angle. Cover the rest of the lilies root system with soil and top off the pot with gravel to keep any top soil from leaching out of the pot.
Push a fertilizer tablet down into the pot with your finger about two inches into the soil and not directly on the lilies root system, as this can burn the roots. Lilies are heavy feeders and should be fertilized once every 30 days after planting.
Follow these instructions and your new water lilies will grow bigger and more beautiful every year. Re-pot your water lilies once every two to three seasons to prevent your lilies from being root bound.
